About Us

We are a chapter of Migrant Workers Alliance for Change, bringing their fight for fairness to current and formal international students at the University of British Columbia. MWAC supports the self-organization specifically of migrant farm workers, care workers, and students across the nation, enabling us to stand in solidarity with one another and demand equal rights in Canada.

The UBC chapter was founded in Novemeber of 2022, following the lead of student organizers on SFU's campus. MSU at SFU came together around eliminating unfair and unjust $75 international student health fees, and we stand with them 100%. MSU UBC organizes and treads on ancestral, unceded Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territory as uninvited guests and settlers. We give our utmost thanks to Indigenous leaders and educators, especially the matriarchs, who have taught us about decolonization struggles on these lands during our time here, and the responsibilities we have as settlers to contribute to this ongoing struggle. Us organizers have had the privilege and honour of expanding our connection to the land through Indigenous-led movement, community, and education on the human and more-than-human world. These are lessons we hold close with us as we organize towards the aligned calls for Status for ALL and Land Back.
